its history which is over 3000 years old! The tour will start at 5 Well Square and then we will go to the first public park in Croatia, Jelena Madijevka Park. While there we will have a view of the monumental Land Gate, a decorated stone gate that was once the main entrance into the city. After that, we will walk through the main city artery – Kalelarga. This will take us to the City Square where the people of Zadar have been meeting since the 12th

Fun w/Improvisation! w/ Kathy K.

Improvisation, or Improv, is spontaneous, entertaining, and fun! The first 8 people entering the class who wish to be an actor that day will be doing 2-person scenes for about 5 minutes. It’s a form of live theatre in which the plot, characters and dialogue of a scene or story are made up in the moment. You will be doing 2-person scenes for about 5 minutes. Kathy will give each pair of “actors” a situation. The actors will each be given a character to pretend to play. After the scene is acted the rest of the class will guess what characters they were portraying. There will be several scenes played out as time allows. Example of a situation for doing an improv scene: You are preparing for your first ride in a hot air balloon.
Kathy Knox discovered improv when she took an improv class in 2016. Since then she has enjoyed teaching and performing improv at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Furman University in Greenville, SC.

Vandana has a master’s degree in English Literature and thirty years teaching experience. She regularly conduct classes on literature based topics at Osher Life Learning Institute, Rutgers University.
Noguchi Subscapes, part 2 w/ Marjorie V.

Bring a pen/pencil and paper for brief drawing or writing exercise as you explore exhibitions at The Noguchi Museum through an interactive virtual program led by educator Marjorie Victor. This session will explore a selection of sculptures in Noguchi Subscapes, an exhibition of works by Isamu Noguchi that explores the artist’s particular interest in unseen and hidden forces.
Marjorie Victor (she/her) is a New York City based jewelry artist and educator. Marjorie began her teaching career as an educator at The Noguchi Museum in 2016 and enjoys working with art lovers of all ages and abilities.

Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

Join David for a full body workout. Do as much or little as you can as he explains how the various exercises help you in your daily movement.
David graduated college with a Film/Editing degree. He owned his own business for 20 years. After the birth of his daughters decided to go into Personal training. He concentrates on Mature Adults and leads individual and group training as well as works with people with various conditions like dementia, parkinsons, etc. David also teaches in the Arts & Science department as part time Faculty for Columbia College in IL.

This is a great class for students with mobility issues. All welcome – We will focus on physical movement, flexibility, balance, and breath work. This gentle form of yoga is practiced in a chair. Some standing poses will be practiced.
Cristina is a SoCal native seeking to expand her yoga practice among several specialized groups including senior communities.

After traveling to the mid west, we move even further west, and will visit the lovely states of Utah, Nevada and Colorado. In Utah we will visit Salt Lake City and in Nevada We will take in the gambling centers of Nevada and Las Vegas. Learn about World Travel, History, and Culture with Allen. Some of the various US cities you will be traveling to virtually will include, Boston, Philadelphia and Miami and will look at the ethnic groups that make these cities unique.
Allen is a former high school math teacher who enjoys doing these virtual travel tours.

Joe holds both a MA in School Administration and a J.D. He taught HS Social Studies for decades and also practiced law even after retiring from teaching. He has presented at many conferences on law-related topics and continues to present to local organizations on the constitution, current events and social issues. His wife is a college professor and former public school Principal, his daughter is a teacher and son a journalist. He’s most proud to be a grandfather of 5 girls-they motivate him in his interest in the American family.
Memorial Day: A Special Look at an American Holiday w/ Steve M.

This class will explore a the history of Memorial Day, its ancient roots and modern connections, as well as some things you certainly never knew before.
Steve has been teaching about American History with VSC since 2018. He has had a varied career, having been a lawyer, Peace Corps Volunteer, and educator. He taught high school social studies in New York City, and now works in administration with the NYC Department of Education, working with high schools in the Bronx. Steve is married with two grown sons, as well as two dogs and three cats!

Maegan White leads a weekly evening class on Women Leaders of the World.
Maegan moved to NYC in 2011 for the Publishing and Digital Media program at NYU, and was excited to discover an online community center for older adults–something she had longed to see in her home city of Montreal when she was working for HelpAge Canada. She has been leading VSC classes ever since, and cherishes the bond she shares with the participants over women leaders throughout history and their influence on our lives today. She loves to spend time in nature and has two small dogs named Cindy and Tucker (who sometimes pop in on classes!)
NY Historical: Transportation in NYC w/ Kionah T.

Celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge’s opening by learning about the history of transportation in New York City.
Kionah Tucker is an experienced museum professional with a passion for making history education accessible and fun. She currently serves as the Education Coordinator at the New-York Historical Society, where she manages the Museum’s internship program for college and graduate students and supports programming related to the Museum’s many initiatives for students and teachers. Originally from Newport News, Virginia, she relocated to attend St. John’s University in 2011, and has called New York City home since. Other than her love for history, she is a lover of fashion, travel, animals, game shows, and great food.
Country Western & Originals w/ Glenn M.

Glenn performs an hour of well-loved songs (“anything that you can sing wearing a cowboy hat”), an occasional corny joke and updates on the family. Over the years, he has come to know the favorite songs of many participants. There is always a welcome mat and a “Howdy” for newcomers.
Glenn Paul Manion performs as an old-school singing cowboy, with colorful costumes and a repertoire of Country/Western favorites from past decades. Together with his wife Suzanne Smithline, he performs in the family-friendly rock and roll band “Squeaky Clean,” who appeared for many years on Nickelodeon’s “Eureeka’s Castle.”

Charles has always been a music lover and his earliest memories of loving music are hearing his beloved Mom humming, singing and listening to a transistor radio, challenging as it was to tune in to a radio station.
Today he wants to bring joy to you by helping you to build a simple toolbox for playing the piano (a super user friendly and approachable instrument), that will enable them to play a lot of song as well as just enjoy the pleasures of singing and listening to Music!

Denise worked in a variety of libraries as a librarian for 35+ years retiring in 2018. After retiring, she wanted to get more involved with her community so now volunteers at her local Senior Center, school lunch program, and various other organizations including the VSC! When she’s not volunteering, Denise spends time with family, reading, crocheting, and cooking.

Hannah Hwang is a 3rd year medical student at Weill Cornell who is passionate about lifestyle medicine, nutrition education, and providing quality care to underserved communities. She was drawn to the field of medicine because she found the intersection between the arts and science fascinating, especially having the privilege to learn about individuals’ stories and use that knowledge to creatively care for and advocate for them.

Norman Reiss has long been an advocate for older adults, starting with when he helped older relatives deal with issues involving residence changes and addressing health issues. Since 2019, Norman has helped clients at DOROT, GetSetUp and Greenwich House, creating and promoting programs, both in person and online. He is also a veteran enliveo / Virtual Senior Center facilitator, having led classes since 2012.

Esther Liu is a third-year medical student at Weill Cornell, and is passionate about promoting and advocating for older adult health and wellness. As a member of WISE (Wellness Initiative for Senior Education), she excited to engage with older adults in the community and, through education, empower them to proactively participate in their own health and well-being.
Chess Club: Intro & Playing w/ Stuyvesant HS students

Learn the moves for the game of Chess lead by Benjamin and other students! You will have a brief intro every class and then you will go into separate “breakout rooms” and be lead by individual students who will explain the Chess piece moves. This is a wonderful game to help with memory, logic and of course it’s very social! Have fun!
Benjamin and his friends love playing chess and compete in Tournaments. Benjamin is the founder of Chess in the Homes, an intergenerational chess program and attends Stuyvesant HS as does most of his fellow chess players who facilitate VSC classes.

Every person has a fantastic life story that needs to be told. In this series of classes, we look at the memories of our lives. We explore the questions both big and small. All of our lives are so different, and we celebrate how different we each are. Our classes usually have a shorter, more straightforward question first and then a more involved question afterward. All of us share our stories. There are lots of smiles and laughter
Ross lives in Sydney, Australia and he enjoys hearing how our lives are so different. He has been working with Seniors for some time now. Ross continues to work part-time in a nursing home, trying to help people live happier, better lives, and looks forward to the VSC weekly sessions very much.
Dealer’s Choice Poker (not for Beginners) w/ Dave K.

Join your friends and play some Dealer’s Choice poker. You get to choose Texas Hold’em and stud poker with wild card variations when it is your turn to deal. The first 6 players who sign in will play at the table and get a chance to be the big winner for the night! This is not a class on how to play…….you should already be familiar with the rules for stud and Texas Hold’em. If you are not comfortable playing, but just want to watch and learn how the game is played, you are more than welcome to join the session and pick up some pointers!
